The hotel is located on a main avenue and close to the center. The room was large enough but not well maitained. The lamp on the bedside was almost broken. The staff especially at the reception was very not sympathetic. There is a significant noise from the upper train.

Guests with a sense of history and a sense of humour will enjoy this dilapidated palace, once the choice of presidents, now reminiscent of Eastern European hotels pre-fall of the Berlin Wall. Rather expensive but great location. Worth paying for lake views and the higher the storey the better.

It is very well located in downtown Chicago, in front of the park and the Buckingham. Some rooms have view to the lake. It need a little bit of maintenance. Classic style hotel. The lobby is quite nice, full of marble

There was mold in the A/C unit and couldn't open window..Hotel entrance was amazing and show cased the history of the building. But the room need alot of work to bring it back in line with the rest of the hotel.Contact hotel the next day and felt like i was in the wrong for informing them about issues…More

adequate and reasonable during a time when Chicago hotels raised their rates about 200 to 300 percent because the Cubs and the Bears were playing … I was able to get this room at the last minute but I had a great view of the lake , grant park, Navy Pier and the fountain and the lights at night.

Overpriced, outdated rooms and facilities. Staff was unprofessional, acting like they really couldn't care any less. Room went unserviced on day two, then on day three we had an early-morning wake up by housekeeping staff. No nostalgic charm, just an old, tired, run down hotel. And the staff performance at the catered event on site was even worse…..

I hesitated on booking this hotel based on so many negative reviews but the entire downtown area was fully booked unless I was prepared to pay $475 per night which I wasn't. Having said that, the room was spacious with 14ft ceilings. The furniture was plain but clean and comfortable. Decor was nonexistant. The bathroom had been updated but the…More

This hotel is in a good location about 15 minutes walk from downtown but a couple of blocks from the L. It is however across from the marina and has nice views. The hotel itself is a lovely old building but the rooms are decidedly average and in need of modernisation. They are not particularly comfortable and are fairly basic….More

Not sure why so many bad reviews? I have stayed at Congress Plaza twice now. This time I had a big group for my birthday. I didn't have one person have a bad word to say about the hotel. It is an older hotel, but very clean! The rooms were good sized, and I got lucky enough to have a…More

First off – "Would you like a quiet room?" is hotel speak for "We're sticking you WAY in the back" – you actually have to pass through a stairwell to access the hall. Do not fall for this.Biggest complaint – We didn't get actual beds! The first night, my husband and I slept together in one of the double…More
